The RSPCA is to open the county’s fifth charity shop in the former bank in Blaby

A new charity shop will open its doors in Blaby tomorrow (Friday 31 May). The RSPCA has taken over what was the Nationwide bank in Forge Corner and the new store will raise money for the care of homeless animals at Leicester’s Woodside Animal Centre.

The animal welfare charity said it was opening a “next generation charity shop” with “the environment and sustainability at the heart of its ethos”. Emma Peake, CEO of the local branch, said: “We’re environmentally conscious and we’ve got our act together. our store using recycled materials where possible.




“It’s rather a different approach and one that I hope others will follow. We all need to be kinder to the planet, which in turn helps us to be kinder to the animals.”

The new store will be officially opened on Friday at 10.30am and local residents are invited to pop along and see all the bargains on offer on opening day. The store will bring the total number of stores run by the RSPCA Leicestershire, Peterborough and Rutland Branch to seven.

It will be the fifth in Leicestershire, with the others being in Birstall, Wigston, Melton and Hinckley. Neil Everall, Head of Fundraising and Marketing for the branch said: “The team have been working around the clock to get our new store ready and I can’t thank everyone enough for all their hard work and we are all so excited and hope the local community. will support us.

“All money raised from our shop will be used to help animals in need in the Leicestershire, Rutland and Peterborough area covered by our branch. It was hard work for everyone involved in getting the store ready for opening – but it was definitely worth it. It will also be the first store in our exciting new RSPCA brand.

“Visitors to our store will be able to find some amazing items hidden on rails and shelves, and this is a next-generation charity shop where we put the environment and sustainability at the heart of what we do. It’s also very exciting that we’re opening this new store in our 200th year – where the RSPCA has rescued, rehabilitated animals in need.”
