Wakefield girls, boys second at regional track and field meets

With a combined five first-place finishes by individuals, the Wakefield Warriors girls and boys teams each finished second in the 6D North Region outdoor track and field championships.

The boys had three winners and the girls two at the recent two-day meet at South Lakes High School in Reston.

Wakefield athletes had numerous personal bests and set several school records.

Leading the way for the boys was double winner Chris Gilpin in the long jump (21-2.5) and high jump (6-2) and Silas Lesparance in the 400 (49.8). Lesparance was also third in the 200 and Gilpin was fourth in the 200.

Finishing second for the Wakefield boys were Thuyon Smith (100), Ben Chapuis (high jump) and Travon Buckner (triple jump).

Third was Mikey Johnson (high jump).

Also for Wakefield’s boys, Frank Mani was fourth in the high jump and fifth in the triple jump, Michael Hutchinson fourth in the shot put, Liam Keish fourth in the 1,600 and sixth in the 800, Bryant Cruz-Lemus and Isiah Ledbetter tied for sixth place. in the high jump, Diego Fernandez was sixth in the pole vault, Smith was sixth in the 200, Chapuis was eighth in the triple jump, Charles Randolph eighth in the shot put and Owen Jacquez was 10th in the high jump and 11th in the long jump.

Leading the way for the Wakefield girls was Kenedy Shields with a win in the long jump (17-6) and seconds in the high jump and the 100 and 200 dashes.

Grace Armitage had Wakefield’s other win in the 300 hurdles (45.56) and was third in the triple jump, fourth in the long jump and fifth in the 100 hurdles.

Wakefield’s Ada Jordan was fourth in the 800, Hosanna Connor sixth in the triple jump, Sofia Vazquez seventh in the pole vault, Addison Young ninth in the 1,600, Eulalia Sarli ninth in the 800 and second in the 4×800 relay.

The Washington-Liberty girls finished third in the meet, led by Gabriela Netwall’s second in the 400, fourth in the triple jump, fifth in the long jump and seventh in the discus. She also ran on two winning relays.

The WL 4×100 relay of Netwall, Heidi Kim, Thalia Lynch and Morgan Brown won in 48.96, and the 4×400 relay of Brown, Netwall, Ella Kaplan and Therese Johansson was first in 3:58.21.

Amela Male was second in the discus and fourth in the shot put. Johansson was fifth in the 800, Brown was fifth in the 100, Elizabeth Rupert was fifth in the discus and sixth in the shot, Alexis Morley-Lascano was seventh in the pole vault, Alba Edsall was eighth in the 3,200, Eve Jungman to opt for the test. shot put and the 4×800 relay was fifth.

Yorktown’s girls finished sixth, led by a win by Marin McCormack in the 400 (56.77) and a third in the 200 and a win by Sofia Sheldon in the 3,200 (10:52.04) and a third in the 1,600.

Yorktown’s Kaiya Ovando was third in the discus and seventh in the shot put, Ellen Malloy was sixth in the 800 and Eleanor Whitehead eighth in the 1,600.

The Washington-Liberty boys placed ninth at the regional meet, led by a victory by Charles Gent in the pole vault (13-9).

Third for WL was Emmett Engelhardt in the 3,200 and he was fifth in the 800. Ian Crowley was fifth in the 110 hurdles, Jackson Nowinski sixth in the 200, Nathanael Fritz seventh in the 3,200 and Joaquin Lynch eighth in the 400.
