Lancashire boy arrested after Bournemouth beach stabbing

A Lancashire teenager has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was stabbed on a beach in Bournemouth.

The 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested following the stabbings at Durley Chine beach, a Blue Flag beach on the Dorset coast.

Dorset Police said officers were called to reports that two women, both from Poole, a town near Bournemouth, had been stabbed at around 11.45pm on Friday.

A 34-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a 38-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Today the force said a 17-year-old Lancashire boy had been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Detective Superintendent Richard Dixey, from Dorset Police, said: “We have worked tirelessly through the night since the initial report and have been able to progress our investigation.

“First and foremost, our thoughts go out to the loved ones of the woman who lost her life very tragically.

“Officers are continuing their inquiries and a cordon remains in place and is likely to remain in place for some time.”
