Graham Smyth calls ‘hidden outside bet’ for major sale of Leeds United this summer

Leeds United could look at a number of sales in the summer window and there are question marks over Joel Piroe’s future after a disastrous season since joining from Swansea City.

Leeds must rebuild in their bid to return to the Premier League in 2025, facing another season in the EFL under Daniel Farke.

Balance will be addressed in the transfer market as players leave and key signings are targeted, with the forward department a major cause for concern.

Joel Piroe an ‘outside bet’ who will be sold if Leeds can get a draw

Graham Smyth of the Yorkshire Evening Post has assessed the current form of the Leeds squad going into the summer window.

With Joel Piroe up front, there are clearly issues with how he fits into the set-up, and it’s up to Daniel Farke to sort them out.

If not, there could be appetite for Leeds to cash in, as Smyth says:

“His goals were important in the first half of the season and he will score some again. But his role needs to be really worked on and defined in the summer if there is to be a real reason for his presence at Leeds.

“A hidden bet early on for a sale if Leeds received a list-clearing offer. It probably stays.”

Will Leeds be promoted next season?

Piroe joined Leeds in an initial £10.5m deal from Swansea City in the summer window and has scored 14 while assisting three in the Championship.

Piroe must come good with a full pre-season at Leeds

It probably didn’t help Leeds or Piroe that he came to the club at the end of August and couldn’t have a pre-season with us.

He needs to adapt more to what Daniel Farke wants from his forwards, which will take a lot of doing after seeing how he has fared this season.

As for selling him, I find it unlikely given the amount of money it will likely take for a club to sign him.
