‘Hopefully’ – Hull FC are keen on the Wigan Warriors man as they target an extended deal

Hull FC’s horribilis year continues and shows no signs of improvement. FC lost their 11th Super League game of the season at the weekend, going down 30-22 against the team above them in the table, Castleford Tigers.

The Black and Whites brought in a number of players mid-season in the hope of turning their year around. Tom Briscoe has joined the club from Leigh Leopards to bolster their inexperienced back line. Ben Reynolds also joined from city rivals Hull KR to add some much needed creativity to the halves.

One of their most impressive signings was young striker Tiaki Chan from Wigan Warriors. Chan got on the scoresheet against the Tigers and added some punch to the FC pack. Chan has an ongoing loan deal with Hull to help him gain much-needed match fitness.

Now, Grix has given an update on his future at the MKM Stadium.

Grix was impressed with Chan’s performance against Castleford and spoke highly of the qualities he brings to the club.

Speaking at the weekly press conference, Grix said he hoped Chan could stay at the MKM Stadium for an extended period after a strong start.

“Yeah, I hope we can keep him for a decent amount of time.

“Obviously, Wigan have a lot of depth and getting a look in there was difficult for him. that’s why he’s here and he’s shown some really good stuff.

“He’s still young and a kid in the sport, if you will. He has a long way to go, but he has a lot of good qualities and we are grateful that he is with us at this time.

Hull FC face a trip to Huddersfield Giants on Friday night where they will be looking to pick up their second win of the season.

Tiaki Chan has a breakthrough season at Catalans Dragons last season. He was a regular part of the side that qualified for the Super League Grand Final and produced a number of eye-catching performances.

Chan made 14 appearances for Les Dracs in 2023, making one try assist, 705 metres, 152 tackles, 13 tackles and three offloads. He joined Wigan Warriors in the off-season with the hope of breaking into their first team.

However, Chan found his opportunities limited by the depth of Wigan’s squad and was restricted to just three appearances for Wigan this season. However, he made a good start to life at Hull after making his debut in their defeat against London Broncos.

His try against Castleford was just the second Super League try of his career. In that game, he averaged 11 yards per carry and made five tackles in an impressive performance.
