Police hit Keyway Retail Park with bricks as they responded to ATM theft

Police officers were pelted with bricks as they responded to reports of an ATM theft at a Black Country retail park. Thieves attempted to steal the cash machine from a store in Keyway Retail Park in Willenhall, Walsall, in the early hours of Tuesday, May 28.

Once officers arrived, their police car was pelted with bricks before the offenders sped off in the direction of Armstrong Way.




Fortunately, the police officers were not injured during the incident, but the police car was badly damaged. Forensic and CCTV investigations are underway to catch the suspects.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “We are investigating after an attempted robbery of an ATM at a store in Keyway Retail Park in Willenhall at around 3.30am on Tuesday. Officers attended and bricks were thrown at a police car before the offenders left in a car in the direction of Armstrong Way.

“Thankfully no officers were injured but the police vehicle was significantly damaged. Forensic experts have examined the scene and CCTV is being reviewed as inquiries continue.”
