The 2024 Boxing World Cup Final will take place in Sheffield as world-class international boxing returns to the City

The final event of the 2024 Boxing World Cup will be held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, England from 27-30 November 2024.

The competition, which is hosted by England Boxing and World Boxing in association with GB Boxing, will be the culmination of the World Boxing Cup series for 2024, when stage winners and other top boxers from this year’s events will compete for the Worlds. Boxing Cup Trophy.

The final event in November will bring the Boxing World Cup back to Sheffield, having hosted the first competition of the series in January 2024. It was followed by the “Boxing World Cup: USA Boxing International Invitational” in Pueblo, Colorado in April 2024. The third event in this year’s series is scheduled to take place in September 2024 and a number of venues are bidding to host it.

The Boxing World Cup is a new international boxing format developed by World Boxing, the international federation that was established to ensure that boxing remains at the heart of the Olympic Movement.

It features contests in 13 weight classes (seven for men and six for women) and allows male and female boxers to accumulate ranking points in multiple rounds of competition throughout the calendar year.

The 2024 Boxing World Cup Final will be supported by the National Lottery and Sheffield City Council in association with World Boxing and GB Boxing.

World Boxing General Secretary Simon Toulson explained: “We are very pleased to bring the final year-end event back to Sheffield following the success of the ‘Boxing World Cup: GB Open’ in January, which was held in the city and received very positive feedback from boxers, coaches and national federations . who participated. World Boxing is committed to providing a calendar of high quality competition opportunities and we have no doubt that this year’s final event in Sheffield will be a great finale to the inaugural World Boxing Cup series.”

Jerome Pels, chief executive, England Boxing, added: “We are delighted to host another event at the home of England Boxing and GB Boxing in Sheffield. The Boxing World Cup in January demonstrated the remarkable achievements possible when stakeholders work together effectively. This upcoming tournament will give fans a fantastic opportunity to witness the superstars of the sport first-hand and give boxers another chance to compete in an elite environment against the best in the world.”

Councilor Martin Smith, Chair of Sheffield City Council’s Economic Development Committee, said: “We are incredibly proud of Sheffield’s sporting credentials and the fact that we are a sporting city. We have hosted many major sporting events over the years and we are delighted that the Boxing World Cup Final will be another one.”

GB Boxing chief executive Matt Holt added: “This is great news for the boxers in our team who will once again have the opportunity to compete at home. They all enjoyed competing at the first Boxing World Cup in Sheffield in January and those who reach the final will be looking forward to having the chance to box at home again, where their family and friends can come and see them in action. in what is sure to be a high-class international competition.”

World Boxing was launched in April 2023 and aims to ensure that boxing remains at the heart of the Olympic movement. On 7 May 2024, he held his first meeting with the IOC, which signaled the start of official collaboration between the two organizations aimed at establishing a path for boxing to remain in the Olympic Games.

World Boxing currently has 29 members covering all five continents competing in international boxing.
