Manchester’s new sportswear brand is expanding into the running market

A new sportswear brand based in Manchester has expanded into the running market.

Backed by Levy UK and Ireland, part of FTSE 100 Compass Group Sudu has hired design lead Samuela Melidoni, who has worked at Adidas, JD Sports and Berghaus.

In her role as head of design at Levy Merchandisinga new branch of Levy UK & Ireland of which Sudu is a part, Melidoni says the new running range has been designed using performance-enhancing fabrics that blend functionality with aesthetic appeal.

“In terms of apparel, we chose lightweight, breathable and premium materials that move with you regardless of the environment, so runners can effortlessly transition from the trail to the city, every day,” she said .

Based in Fourways House in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, Sudu employs 45 people across head office, execution and retail teams.

Vinny Clark, CEO of Levy Merchandisingsaid: “We have high aspirations to build a leading brand that not only equips individuals with the tools they need to excel in physical activity, but also empowers their mindset with every move.”

Sudu teams up with Sported, the UK’s largest network of community groups, helping over 550,000 young people overcome barriers to reach their potential. In partnership, Sudu will support initiatives to make running and sports more accessible.

Levy insists that all products have been ethically sourced, working with factories that have gone through strict audit processes.

The company is now working on new products across the football, fitness and lifestyle categories, as well as working with Levy ambassadors and a wider advisory board to inform the creation of women’s specific product collections across categories to be launched from early 2025.

“The Play football range will focus on inspiring athletes to unleash their inner champions, from grassroots to professional level, with the Rest lifestyle range helping consumers find recovery moments that fuel gains, recognizing the power of the break to progress. Meanwhile, the Train fitness range will bring consumers gym bag staples that make every bead of sweat a badge of honor,” said Clark.
