The battle for the only seat in Cornwall to definitely get a new MP

It is the only constituency in Cornwall where we are certain to get a new MP. Since the creation of the Camborne and Redruth constituency in 2010, the seat has been held by Conservative MP George Eustice. However, Mr Eustice will stand down at the general election, so who will replace him?

Polls suggest it will be a battle between Tory wannabe successor Cornwall councilor Connor Donnithorne and Labour’s Perran Moon. The UK website Polling Report currently shows a Labor win, with an estimated 51.74% of the vote for Moon and 36.76% for Donnithorne.

We asked each of the seven candidates in the constituency – which includes an area from Mount Hawke and Mawnan Smith to Hayle and Gwinear – to outline why they think they would be the perfect MP for one of Cornwall’s most deprived areas. .

Conservative – Connor Donnithorne

I am a strong local champion as the next MP for Camborne, Redruth and Hayle. I live just outside Redruth where we are raising our young family. As a parent, small business owner and local councillor, I will be an MP in touch with the challenges facing local people because I face them myself.

I am a proud Cornishman and I want to play my part in helping to make our Duchy stronger, fairer and safer for One and All. As a local councillor, I have protected free bus passes for pensioners, invested a further £9m to fix local roads and allocated £4m to build more affordable homes for local people.

But there is still much to do. Please lend me your vote this election and I will use my platform as a hardworking local MP to bring about the change we need for our part of Cornwall.
