Motorists have been warned they will face new restrictions in part of Coventry city center from Monday.

Cars will be banned at certain times of the day from the streets near Broadgate and the cathedral, which are part of a new pedestrian and cycle area.

The area covers Cuckoo Lane, Greyfriars Lane, Hay Lane, High Street, Pepper Lane, Priory Row, St Michaels Avenue, Trinity Churchyard and part of Bayley Lane.

Drivers will not be able to drive on these roads between 10am and 6pm Monday to Saturday, unless they have a permit or are exempt.

The restrictions were introduced under an experimental traffic order and will be reviewed after 18 months.

Vehicles exempt from the new rules include buses, carriages and emergency services, as well as residents who have permits.

Drivers who own property in the area and don’t have a permit can apply for one, the order states.

The restrictions are part of Coventry City Council’s plans to reduce traffic and improve safety, access and amenities.

Other changes coming into force on Monday include a no-entry rule on the High Street from Little Park Street.

Part of Bayley Lane, past the Guildhall and Cathedral, will also be closed to traffic.
