Leeds Rhinos host the first Learning Disability Super League Festival of the season

More than 150 people with learning disabilities and autism became ‘Super League’ stars last weekend (Sunday 5 May) at the first Super League Community Integrated Care Learning Disability (LDSL) festival of the 2024 season.

Hosted by the Leeds Rhinos Foundation at Leeds Modernians, the Rhinos welcomed nine other Yorkshire clubs: Hull FC; Hull KR; Sheffield Eagles; York RLFC; Bradford Bulls; Wakefield Trinity; Featherstone Rovers; Castleford Tigers and, making their festival debut, Halifax Panthers.

Hailed as a fantastic showcase for this non-contact, non-competitive and accessible form of rugby league, the day was an unforgettable experience for all involved, and in particular for the Halifax Panthers players who made their LDSL Festival debut.

Six Sheffield Eagles players were also proud debutants including Ben Tempest, Mandy Butcher, Denum Ellarby, Lucas Parker, Cameron Mounde and Mark Berry.

Within the clubs, a culture of inclusion and support was present among players, coaches and families, with every player given the opportunity to shine. In addition to the action on the pitch, Inclusive Volunteers supported the festival in various media roles, from interviewing players on the pitch to capturing photographs.

This included talented local artist and Leeds Rhinos LDSL volunteer Jenny Robinson illustrating an incredible promotional poster for the event.
