The trust which runs Newquay’s minor injuries unit has admitted it is facing staffing challenges – which are affecting opening hours.

It’s been open Friday through Tuesday since March, but he told us that vacancies and staff illness have led to some late openings or early closings.

A spokesman for Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust said:

“In March 2024 we have changed the opening hours of the Newquay Minor Injuries Unit to 8am – 8pm, Friday to Tuesday. This temporary change has been made to support our staff and ensure safe patient care. It reflects the times when the unit is more crowded and remains. in place.

“However, we are still facing staffing difficulties due to vacancies and staff illnesses. These have resulted in some short-term changes to the availability of the minor injuries unit in recent weeks, including early closing or late opening hours.

“In line with our operating policies, our opening hours remain under constant review and we are allocating resources across the county to keep our busiest facilities open and able to treat as many people as possible.

“Recently recruited staff for the Minor Injury Unit in Newquay are currently undertaking the required clinical training which takes 12 months to complete.”
