Danny Rohl could ask George Byers for the ultimate favor as Sheffield Wednesday’s Ligue 1 jewel

Sheffield Wednesday have a new name on their transfer radar.

Sheffield Wednesday have finally secured the future of manager Danny Rohl, who has now penned a three-year deal with the Owls.

For owner Dejphon Chansiri, it will be a relief and also means he and the club can push ahead with their summer transfer plans.

It promises to be a hectic summer in S6. New signings are needed on the pitch and Sheffield Wednesday have been tipped to spend money on the right players.

So far, though, the Owls have been linked with a number of free transfers and loan deals, with several names popping up on the radar in recent weeks.

Rohl wants James Beadle, Ike Ugbo and Ian Poveda all back, while January targets Duncan McGuire and Mika Biereth are back in their sights.

Elsewhere, free agent Ovie Ejaria has been linked, along with Brest talent Karamoko Dembele.

How George Byers can help Karamoko Dembele at Sheffield Wednesday

Dembele, 21, has been linked with a loan move to Sheffield Wednesday this summer after his impressive spell at Blackpool last season.

The former Celtic has registered 23 goal contributions in all competitions and won three player of the season awards with Blackpool.

And it was Bloomfield Road where Byers himself was sent out on loan in January this year; fell out of favor with Rohl but impressed with Blackpool.

Byers played 16 times in League One and bagged one assist, earning solid reviews during his time on the seaside, linking up well in a team with Dembele who finished the campaign strongly.

Byers was a huge fan favorite in S6 but has since been released by the Owls; he was pictured away at Ewood Park during Sheffield Wednesday’s all-important 3-1 win against Blackburn Rovers.

He certainly came across as someone who loved and cared for the club and if Dembele can go to anyone for a review of Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday and the fans, it is surely Byers.

Can Sheffield Wednesday realistically sign Karamoko Dembele this summer

Although Byers has fallen out of favor with Rohl, he has had plenty of time to play and train under the German, and if he is like every other player on Wednesday who spoke about the issue, he will be impressed.

And Byers certainly had an affinity with the Sheffield Wednesday faithful, and that, combined with the chance to play under Rohl, could be enough for Dembele to be loaned out to his S6 for next season.

It would also represent a step up in quality and a definite guarantee of playing time, while a return to Brest, who will play in the Champions League next season, may not.

There are also Premier League clubs interested in Dembele this summer, but again, that could mean Dembele is only on loan or playing as a reserve player.

So there’s certainly reason to believe Sheffield Wednesday can strike an ambitious deal for Dembele this summer, and Byers could play a role behind the scenes.
