20-year-old man arrested after personal trainer stabbed to death

A 20-year-old man from London has been arrested after a woman was stabbed on a beach in Bournemouth.

Police have launched a murder investigation after Amie Gray, 34, a personal trainer and women’s head coach at Dorset Futsal Club, was killed on Friday night.

Another woman, aged 38, also from Poole, suffered serious injuries and is still being treated in hospital.

Officers were called to reports that two women had been stabbed on Durley Chine beach at around 11.45pm on Friday.

After a manhunt, Dorset Police worked with colleagues in London to arrest the 20-year-old, from the Croydon area, on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

Detective Superintendent Richard Dixey, from the force’s Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “The investigation has progressed rapidly over the last few days which has now led to an arrest in London.

“Officers from Dorset Police’s firearms and intelligence teams worked alongside colleagues from the Metropolitan Police to make the arrest.

“We are continuing to update the loved ones of the woman who tragically died, as well as the victim in hospital, with all the latest developments and our thoughts remain with them.

“I would like to thank everyone who has come forward with information so far and reiterate my appeal for witnesses who have not already come forward to contact Dorset Police.

“The increased visible police presence in the area will remain in place and we will continue to strongly encourage anyone with concerns not to hesitate to speak to any officer who will be able to listen and provide appropriate advice.”

Dorset Futsal Club, where Ms Gray, according to her Facebook page, was head women’s coach, paid tribute.

“The club has received some truly devastating news,” it said.

“We cannot put this into words at this time, and out of respect for all those affected, we will not be posting anything new for the foreseeable future.”

The club also changed their profile pictures to a plain black background.

The beach where the stabbing took place is one of Bournemouth’s most popular, according to Visit Dorset, and is located west of the town’s pier.
