The first women’s wheelchair rugby festival to take place in Sheffield

Sheffield Eagles will partner the Rugby Football League to host the inaugural Women’s Wheelchair League Rugby Festival on Saturday (May 11).

The event will take place at Concord Leisure Center in Sheffield between 2pm and 4pm. In the first hour, England head coach Tom Coyd MBE will lead a carousel of coaching stations before moving on to playing opportunities for all participants.

The event is free and open to both women who would like to try Wheelchair Rugby League for the first time or those who already have experience.

“Ahead of the 2023 Betfred Challenge Cup Final, we hosted a small taster event of Women’s Wheelchair Rugby League,” explained Martin Coyd OBE, Managing Director of England Wheelchair RL.

“The interest was huge and although many of the women who attended said they liked playing in the mixed environment with men, they also said they liked their own space and we should look at holding more women-only events. The May 11 event is a response to this – it will be the first of an exciting new, women-only activity that we plan to take place at all levels of the trail.”

To sign up, simply email [email protected] and provide your name, email, mobile number and whether or not you will be bringing your own sports wheelchair Thursday 9 at the latestth May. More details will be sent to you in due course.
