Wrexham pals become Leeds fans after Ryan Reynolds’ Disney doc makes them ‘too popular’

Two Wrexham fans have become Leeds United supporters because of Ryan Reynolds’ documentary which makes the Welsh club ‘too popular’.

It would appear that the Wrexham ‘fairy tale’ is not all it is cracked up to be, with two supporters switching allegiance from the Red Dragons after criticizing co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney over the influx of supporters to the game.

The Hollywood duo took over the North Wales club in 2021 and launched behind the scenes Welcome to Wrexham streamable series on Disney. Despite back-to-back promotion to League One, loyal supporters are apparently unhappy with the club’s new global reach.

Mark ‘Bob’ Williams, who cares for his blind friend Neal Tunnah, told LeedsLive that they decided to support Leeds despite him being a Wrexham supporter since he was a child. “It’s really hard to get tickets for Wrexham because you’ve got all the new people who have now got on the bandwagon,” said Bob.

“A few years ago before the takeover we were getting two or three thousand a game, now we get 11,000 to 12,000 and it’s very difficult for loyal supporters to get anything. It’s a good thing, but it’s also bad because they have to think about the people who have supported them for 30 or 40 years. Some of them are not happy about it at all.”
