You’re not going to move the homeless to accommodate Taylor Swift fans in Liverpool

The ECHO understands there are no plans for homeless people to be sent out of Liverpool to make way for Taylor Swift fans.

A BBC report found that some homeless people were sent from Edinburgh to accommodate tourists and visitors heading to the Scottish capital to see Taylor Swift in concert.

The global megastar is playing three shows at Murrayfield Stadium from June 7-9 as part of his Eras Tour. The tour will see her perform over three nights at Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium from June 13-15.

Housing charity Shelter told the BBC that several homeless people it supports have been sent by taxi to Aberdeen and Glasgow amid a lack of accommodation in the capital. It appears that one person has been offered temporary accommodation in Newcastle.

Edinburgh City Council said it was working with affected households to find “suitable alternative accommodation”. The council’s housing manager said the situation was a “symptom of the housing emergency” facing the city.

The ECHO understands that while Liverpool has also declared a housing and homelessness emergency, there are no plans to move homeless people out of the city while at least 150,000 Taylor Swift fans head to Liverpool.
