ITV’s Coronation Street’s Roy Cropper faces a deadly threat in prison storyline

Coronation Street fans are reeling from the prospect of Roy Cropper, played by Leicestershire star David Neilson, meeting his demise. The beloved character has been behind bars for a long time after the disappearance of Lauren Bolton led to allegations of his involvement in her alleged death.

Despite his innocence, DS Swain is adamant that Roy is guilty. Now, Roy finds himself in the crosshairs of fellow inmate Griff, who is convinced of Roy’s guilt over Lauren. Griff planned to isolate Roy and managed to get Roy’s cellmate to lure him to the library, allowing Griff to sneak into Roy’s cell.

Griff clearly has a dangerous scheme in mind. Could this spell spell Roy’s undoing, signaling an exit for Weatherfield’s iconic resident? With Griff now having access to Roy, the danger is high, but whether Roy can survive this ordeal remains to be seen, the Mirror reports. David has previously spoken about the weight of carrying such a story.

“It’s a compliment, but at the same time a responsibility. I love when Roy does bits and pieces in scenes with other people and I get to spend time with my family and see my grandkids, but you never know when things will suddenly happen. it’s getting busier and I’m ready for it. When you get a part in a play, you know the whole part,” he commented.

Speaking about the inherent unpredictability of his role, he stated, “Here, you don’t know what’s going to happen to your character. I don’t know the whole story, I like to see how things go when I get the scripts. What I like about it is how 29 years have passed in 1995 when Roy first arrived used against him, things that happened in the past, like the kidnapping of their adopted child. Everything that makes this story interesting.”

Expressing deep respect for his character, he added: “I respect the character a lot, I think it made a difference and I put a lot into it. He entered as “Creepy Cropper”. I remember when I first got on the show and I was in York somewhere and there was some chatter and one said to the other ‘It’s that weirdo from Coronation Street’ and I thought wow.”

“Then of course over time it’s evolved and people seem to like it and I love it. I think what he loves about people is his struggle with life and that is part of his struggle. He’s kind of on the ropes with this one. he has no choice, it happened to him again. He continues to do what he thinks is right what everyone around him tells him to act like others, to be more what others would consider “normal”, but he is not. Otherwise he wouldn’t be in this situation, it’s only going to get worse.”
