Fire in an industrial area causes huge plumes of smoke over the village

Firefighters rushed to the scene of a fire which broke out on an industrial estate in Cornwall overnight. Several crews tackled the fire in Devoran until the early hours of this morning (Friday 31 May) after it broke out just before midnight last night.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said in a statement that a large industrial unit was found well lit with large clouds of smoke billowing into the air. Locals in Devoran were advised to avoid the area due to the large amount of smoke.




By about 3:35 a.m., the large fire was out and firefighters had left the scene, fire officials said. An inquest is due to take place later today to determine the cause of the fire.

Posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: “FalmouthCFRS TruroCFRS TolvaddonCFRS HelstonCFRS PerranporthCFRS are in attendance at a large industrial unit which is well alight. The incident also has two specialist officers supporting crews. Please avoid the Devoran area immediately due to heavy plumes of smoke.”

In an update at 3.35am, he added: “The industrial fire incident at Devoran has now ceased and all appliances are back on. The fire investigation will take place during the day today. This is all the information we have at present.” .
