‘Up to 50%’ – YEP: Leeds United make huge sale for eye-catching 18-goal EFL talent

‘Up to 50%’ – YEP: Leeds United make huge sale for eye-catching 18-goal EFL talent

Leeds United will be hoping that a club further up the pyramid than MK Dons will pursue a move for Max Dean in the coming months, with a massive sell-on clause included in his contract.

Leeds’ attempts to save money by signing youth players early in their careers has been a successful route in terms of the money they have to make on first-team stars.

There are many who have been let go from the club before making their senior debut, but there is still a good chance that these players will continue to make money for the club.

Leeds hold significant ‘up to 50%’ Max Dean sell-on clause – YEP

MK Dons signed Max Dean in January 2023 when Mark Jackson was at the helm and after relegation to League Two the youngster came into his own.

Under new manager Mike Williamson, Dean was instrumental in seeing MK Dons qualify for the play-offs with 18 goals in all competitions.

Now the Yorkshire Evening Post have revealed that the Whites have a huge sell-on clause for his sale from MK Dons, should it happen in the near future:

“Should the Bedfordshire club be promoted, it may shed further light on the performances of former Leeds U21 striker Dean. The 20-year-old has 18 goals and five assists in 33 appearances this term and has been in impressive form since returning from injury at the end of the season.

“YEP understands that Leeds hold a sell-on clause worth up to 50% of any future fee negotiated during his original sale to MK Dons just 18 months ago. This means the Whites are in line to receive a bumper home if Dean’s services are sought elsewhere this summer, whether it’s higher up the Football League pyramid or abroad, as was the case in the last January window , with interest from a French club. “

Who will win the playoffs?

MK Dons face play-off elimination by Crawley

MK Dons’ chances of keeping Dean are much better if they can secure promotion to League One via the play-offs.

However, that looks incredibly unlikely after they were beaten 3-0 away by Crawley Town on Tuesday night, giving them a mountain to climb in the second leg.

Life could have been very different for Dean and the away side, however, as a third-minute chance for the former Leeds striker saw him round the keeper and look to slot into an empty net, but a cross from the touchline also carries a chase… up save to negate.

Max Dean could be a rising EFL star

You could see in our youth set-up that Dean was ready for senior football by the way he handled himself up front and the way he took chances.

The fact that he now looks like one of the best strikers in the lower leagues shouldn’t come as a shock to any Leeds fan who has watched him consistently.

Hopefully he gets that big move so we can not only cash in, but climb the ladder as his performances deserve.
