Woman attacked by dog ​​and hospitalized as police storm street

A woman remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being attacked by a dog in her home. The 90-year-old victim suffered a serious dog bite on the arm.

The incident happened in the early hours of yesterday morning (Thursday, May 30) at an address in Cannis Road, St Austell. The dog was seized and destroyed and a man was arrested and remains in custody.




A witness reports that the police have remained in the area since the incident more than 24 hours ago. Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the dog had been put to sleep and was not a banned breed.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police were alerted to concerns for the welfare of a 90-year-old woman at 12.45pm on Thursday 30 May. The woman had been taken to Derriford Hospital after suffering a serious dog bite. her arm.

“Her injuries are believed to be life-threatening and she remains in hospital. Her next of kin have been informed. Officers attended an address in Cannis Road, St Austell, where a dog was seized and subsequently put to sleep.”

The force added: “The dog was not a banned breed. This is believed to be an isolated incident with no greater risk to the community.

“A police cordon remains in place while inquiries continue. A 60-year-old man from St Austell has been arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing a vulnerable adult to suffer serious injury. He remains in police custody.”
