Coronation Street fans think they’ve discovered the fall of Lauren Bolton’s killer and identified their secret accomplice. Roy Cropper was falsely arrested and charged as the prime suspect in the alleged murder of missing teenager Lauren. Fans of the soap will remember Lauren, a troubled young character, suddenly disappeared from the scene earlier this year, leaving her friend Bobby worried after discovering her flat unlocked and empty.

Lauren’s departure was not shown to viewers and she apparently did not inform anyone close to her of her plans to leave Weatherfield except Roy. After reporting Lauren missing to the police, Roy became suspicious due to his kind nature.

This suspicion was heightened when he was found tidying Lauren’s apartment, an act that some interpreted as evidence of guilt. As a result, online detectives subjected him to a torrent of internet abuse.

In Thursday’s episode, DS Lisa Swain and newcomer Kit thought they had solved the mystery when they arrested Nathan Curtis, a known abuser who had previously tormented Bethany Platt and had just been released from prison. During Nathan’s interrogation in the jail cell, with Joel Deering acting as his lawyer, a revealing flashback suggested that Nathan was guilty, the Mirror reports.

However, a shocking twist later in the episode revealed that Joel was actually Lauren’s killer. After the episode ended, the pavement dwellers celebrated Roy’s release from prison after Nathan’s arrest. Joel left the festivities and headed to his car, which young Hope Stape had cleaned as part of her fundraising efforts for the Little Big Shotz drama club.

In a shocking turn of events, Hope revealed she discovered a necklace under his car seat – identified as Lauren’s necklace. This revelation triggers a disturbing flashback, which shows Joel assaulting Lauren, leaving her lifeless and bloodied. He was seen shaking and repeatedly touching his face in shock as he looked in the mirror.

As Joel hurried out of the apartment, he yanked Lauren’s necklace from the side. Following the flashback, a sinister Joel was shown playing with the necklace on the pavement before looking off into the distance. With Nathan now behind bars, will Joel be caught and who else is in danger?

Viewers of the show went to X with theories that Hope will be instrumental in Joel’s upcoming downfall due to her knowledge of the necklace. Additionally, many believe that since Joel touched her hair and face after assaulting Lauren, he could leave crucial DNA evidence behind.
