Leeds Rhinos v Castleford Tigers: Harry Newman inspired by brother Ed

There has been hype surrounding Harry Newman since he first emerged as a talented academy player and that promise continues to be delivered.

He made his England debut in 2023 and has become one of Super League’s most marketable talents – young, pacey, skilful and full of flair.

It is such talent that secured him the chance to attend the FA Cup final as a sponsor’s guest and give his brother that list moment at Wembley.

However, like his life off the field, there were setbacks; long lasting wounds that would test the strongest of characters.

“I had a broken leg in 2020 and I was out for 11 months and people wrote me off then,” Harry said.

“Since then I’ve had two hamstring operations and I feel like that would have derailed a lot of people.

“But if I get an opportunity to be on that field when he (Ed) isn’t, then I’ll make sure I am. I would never give up and he is my reason why.

“Before I kept everything and I’m not perfect now but I’ve definitely changed a lot off the pitch and a lot of people have said that. It’s in the way I act.

“Sometimes it shows on the pitch but I’m a competitor and I want to win. Sometimes I’ll have a bad game, last week (against St Helens) was probably the worst game I’ve ever had.”
