General Election: Go to it and register to vote

If you are not registered then you will not be able to vote in the upcoming UK General Election on Thursday 4th July.

You can register to vote or change your voting details online. You will need to register by June 18 to vote in this election.

Photo ID

Photo ID will also be required when you vote in person at your neighborhood polling station. This is due to the change in legislation introduced by the government.

Voters will only need to present one photo ID, but it must be the original, as copies will not be accepted and you will not be able to vote. You may also be able to use an expired photo ID if you are still recognizable from the photo.

Accepted forms of photo ID

There are many forms of ID accepted, they are:

  • passport issued by the United Kingdom, any of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, a British Overseas Territory, an EEA state or a Commonwealth country
  • driving license issued by the United Kingdom, any of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or an EEA state (this includes a provisional driving licence)
  • a blue badge
  • the elderly person’s bus permit
  • Oyster Card 60+
  • Freedom Pass
  • PASS card
  • biometric immigration document
  • national identity card issued by an EEA state
  • electoral authority certificate issued by a local authority.

The deadline to apply for a new application for a postal or postal proxy vote and for changes to existing postal or proxy votes is Wednesday 19 June 2024 at 5pm.
