The former Peterborough United and Bradford City Journeyman is making the switch out of the league

A name that is probably quite well remembered by both Peterborough United and Bradford City fans is that of of Nathaniel Knight-Percival.

Although potentially remembered by every set of fans for different reasons, Knight-Percival established himself as a very solid defensive option for a multitude of EFL teams in the 2010s.

It would be a move to Peterborough United where the centre-back would first establish himself in the EFL. He joined Posh in 2012 from then National League outfit Wrexham and there was plenty of hype surrounding the signing. Now 37, having joined when the Cambridgeshire side were in the Championship, he would have climbed three divisions as a result.

He would go on to make 31 appearances for Peterborough in the Championship during the 2012/13 season, one that is probably not best remembered by fans due to their relegation to the third tier. However, he would play a part in their EFL Trophy triumph the following year before being released and joining Shrewsbury Town.

Knight-Percival would spend two seasons with the Shrews before establishing himself in the Bradford City defense for three years. He would be a mainstay in the Bantams’ back-to-back line-up during their time in League One and almost earned promotion with the club in the 2016/17 season, although he would ultimately miss out, losing 1-0 to Millwall . the play-off final.

Somewhat of a journeyman, Knight-Percival made over 250 EFL appearances and also played for Carlisle United, Morecambe and Tranmere Rovers.

He is on the move again with Southport FC of the National League North, revealing him as their latest signing on their official website. Bringing a wealth of experience as well as leadership qualities with him, he should prove to be a good signing for the club.

Even at 37, the defender will still be playing at a good level and has had a long and fairly injury-free career.

The writer’s vision

Highly thought of when he made the three-league jump to play in the Championship for Peterborough United, Knight-Percival may not have reached the heights the club would have hoped for. However, he still proved to be an excellent defender in the third tier and was extremely solid for both Shrewsbury and Bradford.

He now appears to be nearing the end of his career and given his understanding of the game, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see the defender find a role in football after retirement.
