A Scrambler rider cut off the PCSO before asking “is he ok?”

A police community support officer who was called to reports of disturbed bikers on a bridle path was cut down by one of the “arrogants”.

David Dunbavin, 20, crashed into PCSO Steven Lambe on a footpath in Alderwood, near Speke, on the afternoon of July 28, 2023. The PCSO was among two groups of officers called to the woods following complaints of look at scrambler bikes.

He said he saw Dunbavin “appear out of nowhere” about 30 to 40 meters away and realized the bike was coming towards him but was unable to avoid it on the narrow path and was hit and thrown in the air. He suffered a fractured right leg and ligament damage to his knee, as well as abrasions to his face and chest.

Dunbavin – who had been fined just days before the offense for careless driving and obstructing a police officer – was arrested and later pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving without insurance and a license and not reported an accident. He appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today, May 31, for sentencing.

Henry Riding, prosecuting, said: “(The PCSO) realized the bike was coming towards him and he didn’t have time to react and he was hit by it and felt like he was blown up.

“I heard the defendant ask his colleague ‘Is he all right?’ before the defendant was catapulted into a stream adjacent to the path.”
