Help, I’m addicted to sausage and chips! The father of two has had the same table for 22 years

A man who has eaten sausage and chips every day for the past 22 years is asking for help to change his diet.

Father-of-two Daniel Pennock, 26, ate all kinds of food as a child, but by the time he turned four, he refused to eat anything but sausage and chips for dinner.

He says he gets physically ill when any food nears his lips except bread, crisps, apples, bananas and sausage rolls.

Mr Pennock, from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, said his odd habit had cost him relationships and caused him to gain weight. He said he had never eaten in his life.

Mr Pennock, a lifeguard who wants to become a personal trainer, sought professional help with his diet.

“I eat nothing but garbage and I’m fed up,” he said.

“I don’t think I’ve ever eaten a vegetable in my life. I eat bananas and apples, but if anything else comes near my mouth, it makes me physically ill.

“I have sausage and chips every day and have for 22 years. I’ve tried eating other things but I just can’t keep them down.

“But I want to settle it once and for all – not just for me, but for my family.”

Mr. Pennock is single and lives alone. Daughter Aleigha, five, and son Kai, three, live with an ex-partner.

He said he eats the same thing every day: toast for breakfast; a crisp sandwich or sausage roll for lunch and then three or four Lincolnshire sausages with oven chips and two slices of bread for dinner.

He even has sausages on Christmas Day, but with roast potatoes instead of chips.

“I racked my brain and asked the parents to find out how this all started, but it’s a mystery,” he said.

“I thought maybe I choked on something when I was young, but my mom says no.”

After visiting his doctor, he was diagnosed with selective eating disorder and his weight ballooned to 19 stone.

His gym workouts have brought his weight down to 16 stone 5kg, but he is still suffering.

“My son is running and playing soccer and I’m tired. I have no energy,” he said.

“People say ‘you’re picky or picky,’ but I’ve been trying to eat other things. I’ve tried the chicken before, but I was actually sick before it hit my mouth.

“I tried picking my nose, but it makes me sick just thinking about it.”

Mr Pennock has found a specialist in London for treatment but is saving up for the £300 sessions.
