Five arrested after man seriously injured in horror shooting

Five people have been arrested after a 20-year-old man was seriously injured in a shooting in Salford.

Emergency services descended on Aspinall Crescent, Little Hulton, at around 9.30pm on Sunday, May 26, following a “suspected firearm discharge”. Greater Manchester Police said shots were fired at a house.

The victim, a 20-year-old man, was rushed to hospital at the scene with serious shoulder injuries.

A scene remained in place overnight and throughout the bank holiday amid ongoing inquiries into the incident.

Afterwards, some horrified residents told him Manchester Evening News how they wanted to move, while sharing fears of increased crime in the local area.

In an update today (Friday), detectives from Salford’s Criminal Investigation Department said they had made five arrests in connection with the shooting and that inquiries were ongoing.

Earlier this week, Greater Manchester Police confirmed that two men, both in their 20s, had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

In a statement released this evening, Chief Inspector Gareth Humphreys of GMP’s Salford district, said: “It is extremely fortunate that the victim did not sustain more serious injuries after the firearms were discharged on Aspinall Crescent.

“We share the concern of our local residents who are rightly alarmed by Sunday’s incident, I want to assure you that we have robust uniformed patrols in the area while we investigate.

“If you have any concerns or would like to speak to them, please don’t hesitate; i’m there for you

“This type of behavior is unacceptable and I would like to remind people that they cannot take the law into their own hands. No matter where you live, if a crime is committed in Greater Manchester, we will use every resource available to track you down.

“Although we have made five arrests so far, we are still appealing to the public who may have any information that could assist our inquiries to contact us and do the right thing.

“If you saw anything suspicious in the area on the evening of Sunday 26th May please contact us, it could be the missing piece of information we need to progress our investigation.
