Police concerned for welfare of woman in vehicle – updates

A large emergency service response was seen in Cornwall this afternoon (Friday 31 May). At around 11.10am, officers were called to Playing Place, near Truro, following a concern for the welfare of a woman in a vehicle.


An eyewitness told CornwallLive that a number of police officers and ambulance crews were in the area. They said: “A few police officers and ambulances at Playing Place Shell this afternoon.”



A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said they were called to reports of concern for the welfare of a woman in a vehicle. They said: “The ambulance service was also called to the scene. Officers remain at the scene and inquiries are ongoing.”

A woman dies at the scene

Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police were called at around 11.10am on Friday 31 May following a concern for the welfare of a woman in a vehicle in Playing Place, near Truro. The ambulance service was also called to the scene.

“Unfortunately, the 60-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious. The police will continue to liaise with HM Coroner.”

Police have placed cones around the area

Another eyewitness told CornwallLive that police were stopping people from entering the Playing Place area. They said:

I just got back from the Playing Place, cones outside and you can’t go in there. The police are on the fuel field.

Concern for the welfare of a woman in a car

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said:

Police were called at around 11.10am on Friday, May 31 following a concern for the welfare of a woman in a vehicle at Playing Place, near Truro.

The ambulance service was also called to the scene.
