Leeds Police officer ‘dragged under car’ and seriously injured – live updates

A police officer was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being dragged under a car in Leeds.

It is reported that shortly after 1.15pm today (May 31), a Seat Ibiza failed to stop for West Yorkshire Police’s road policing unit and was pursued before being stopped a few minutes later on Selby Road.




A video shared online shows the police officer being dragged under the car as he tries to approach those inside. The policeman has since been taken to hospital and the occupants of the car have been arrested.

Selby Road was closed in both directions for a short time while police inquiries took place.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Shortly after 1.15pm today on Selby Road, Leeds.

“The occupants of the vehicle were arrested and while being detained a police officer sustained injuries and was taken to hospital. The investigation remains ongoing, which required the road to be closed for a short time.


“A second vehicle not involved in the pursuit was also damaged in the incident.”

Police issue major update as officer ‘dragged under car’ in Leeds chase

A police officer who was “dragged under a car’ in Leeds he was left with non-life-threatening injuries, West Yorkshire Police confirmed.

Shortly after 1.15pm on Friday, May 31, a Seat Ibiza failed to stop for a traffic police unit. The vehicle was chased before it was stopped minutes later in Selby Road, Leeds.

Outpouring of support from Yorkshire for police officer dragged under car in ‘failure to stop’ chase.

Yorkshire Live has been inundated with messages and well wishes for a police officer who was seriously injured after being “dragged under a car” in Leeds this afternoon (May 31).

A video shared online showed the horrific moment the police officer was dragged under the car as they tried to approach those inside. The car, a Seat Ibiza, had been stopped by Occident Yorkshire Constabulary traffic police unit in Selby Road following a short pursuit after he “failed to stop”.

“Shortly after 1.15pm today, a Seat Ibiza failed to stop for a traffic police unit and was pursued before being stopped a few minutes later on Selby Road, Leeds.

“The occupants of the vehicle have been arrested. A police officer also suffered non-life threatening injuries in the incident and was taken to hospital.

“Ongoing investigations which required the closure of the road for a short period of time.

“A second vehicle not involved in the pursuit was also damaged in the incident.”

A West Yorkshire Police officer who was left with serious injuries after being “dragged under a car” in Selby Road, Leeds, has been taken to hospital.

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, a force spokesman confirmed.
