Travelers pick up in the Solihull leisure center car park

A group of travelers set up in a gym car park in Solihull. Footage, recorded on a camera phone, showed around ten caravans lined up in the Tudor Grange Leisure Center car park today, May 31.

The car park is used by members of the leisure center which has a range of fitness facilities including a gym and swimming pool. The unauthorized encampment comes just days after a fleet of caravans moved into the town’s Monkspath Hall Road car park.

Solihull Council said at the time it was working with police to move the group “as quickly as possible”. In separate incidents, travelers also sat down at Monkspath car park in 2016 and then a year later in 2017.

We contacted the council for comment on Tudor Grange this afternoon but had not received a statement at the time of publication. Of travelers moving into the Monkspath Hall Road car park, a council spokesman told us on Tuesday: “We are aware of an unauthorized encampment.

“Working alongside Solihull Police, we are taking the necessary legal action to move them forward as quickly as possible.”
