Erik ten Hag refused to update the time frame as Man United accused of “injuring” three players

Manchester United have yet to make a final decision on Erik ten Hag’s future as manager, despite reports that the manager was set to be sacked after the FA Cup final.

The Dutchman recorded United’s worst ever Premier League finish, but capped the season with an FA Cup triumph over Manchester City. It has been reported elsewhere that Ten Hag will be sacked regardless of the result at Wembley.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is in no rush to make a decision, although he will have to make a call soon. The transfer window opens in two weeks’ time and the manager will want a say in the comings and goings, whatever that may be.

United have been criticized for damaging the reputations of three players, all of whom could leave this summer, by a former Premier League great. He said it showed “something is wrong” at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag’s decision has been postponed

A decision on Ten Hag’s sacking will not be made this week, according to The Telegraph. United are currently working on their season review and will carefully consider their next steps once it is over.

MEN Sport revealed earlier this year that Ratcliffe is not entirely sold on Ten Hag as manager, ring fencing has left Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi as a potential replacement. Ratcliffe also declined to publicly assess Ten Hag’s tenure.

Ten Hag is currently on holiday while the review is carried out. De Zerbi’s agents, Thomas Tuchel, Gareth Southgate, Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Frank and Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna have all been spoken to in recent weeks, the report said.

MEN Sport’s Isaac Johnson says: “It seems that Ineos is on the right track to decide the future of Erik ten Hag. There’s no point firing a manager if there isn’t someone better to come in.

“However, there are indeed attractive options, Pochettino and Tuchel to name two. Ratcliffe is right to bide his time, but he must not wait too long to make a decision if he wants to remove Ten Hag, with the transfer window not that far away for any new manager.”

Fabregas: Three players show United’s condition

Cesc Fabregas says the drop in quality from Jadon Sancho, Sofyan Amrabat and Casemiro shows how badly United have managed. He told the BBC he believes the trend shows something is or has been wrong internally.

He said: “Manchester United will come back because they are a big team but look at Jadon Sancho. He doesn’t go well at United, he goes to Dortmund and looks again like the player we all thought he would be.

“Look at the midfielder who impressed for Morocco at the World Cup (Amrabat), he was fantastic. And then he goes to Man United and he was never the same player.

“Casemiro won Champions League after Champions League at Real Madrid, he was the best defensive midfielder in the world and then he goes to Manchester United and looks like a completely different player.

“Obviously it makes me think something is wrong there. It’s not a coincidence that three top players come and they’re not good all of a sudden.”

MEN Sport’s Isaac Johnson says: “Fabregas is right to point out the dips in form and is partly right in his assessment. United have been a pit in recent years due to the way they have been run internally.

“However, Sancho’s form at Dortmund really shows that the German club is the right environment for him, not that it would necessarily cut him anywhere else in the Premier League. Sofyan Amrabat has only played well since realizing United might not keep him.

“And Casemiro is now 32 and it shows, although it must be remembered that his first season at Old Trafford was impressive. Each case in itself is individual and not necessarily indicative of the state of United, but it’s also fair to say that neither has improved by being at the club either.”
