A Waterford man died in the crash in Oakdale, identified by the Stanislaus Coroner’s Office

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office has identified the 34-year-old man killed early Saturday morning in a crash in Oakdale as Daniel Steffens.

The crash involving a utility pole on Yosemite Boulevard north of Wakefield Drive happened shortly before 1:40 a.m.

The California Highway Patrol’s preliminary investigation found Steffens, who was driving a 2012 Audi sedan, was southbound in the South Yosemite “slow lane” when he made a left turn into the northbound lanes. It continued onto the raised concrete curb before striking the Pacific Gas & Electric utility pole.

Steffens, alone in his car, was wearing a seat belt, a CHP news release said. It is not yet known if drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash, the release said. It does not mention speed or braking efforts.

Steffens was pronounced dead at the scene.

A GoFundMe page names him as Daniel Wayne Steffens Jr. and says his wife and three children are among his survivors.
