Danny Murphy takes on Daniel Farke following Leeds United’s Paraag Marathe’s statement

Danny Murphy is convinced Leeds United have made the right decision to keep Daniel Farke as manager ahead of the 2024/25 Championship campaign.

The Whites suffered a sixth defeat of a play-off campaign at Wembley last Sunday, losing 1-0 to Southampton thanks to Adam Armstrong’s first-half strike. The former Norwich City head coach was welcomed to Elland Road last summer in the hope of adding to the two promotions he achieved with the Canaries.

However, one win in their last six league games saw Leeds miss out on automatic promotion despite accumulating 90 points in the regular season. They became the first team to achieve that total, but failed to secure a place in the Premier League the following campaign. The result led to questions over the German’s future at the club.

However, President Paraag Marathe has shown his support for Farke and hopes he can do better in the coming term. According to the Whites chairman, their work on building a squad has already begun, despite reports claiming the club owes around £190m in transfer fees, of which £73m is expected to be paid to end of next month.

And former England international Murphy believes the Yorkshire club have made the right decision regarding Farke’s future at Elland Road. The 47-year-old highlighted Leeds’ start to the campaign and how the German has managed to turn their fortunes around, further reiterating that the potential replacements available to succeed Farke are no better than those they already have place.

“They had a lot of setbacks at the start of the season,” Murphy told talkSPORT this week. “He was late at the door and the start was catastrophic, in terms of what Leeds fans expected.
