Manchester United wanted Benjamin Pavard

“I won everything. At 27, it was time for a change. I was looking for a new adventure, after seven seasons in Germany”, explains Pavard to La Repubblica. “I wanted to know Italy and experience the passion of Serie A.

“I forced myself to leave Munich. I only wanted Inter. (Cel Nerazzurri) had been following me for a long time, I already felt like an Inter fan.”

A big factor in Pavard’s decision to leave Bavaria – beyond getting a little tired of those annual trips to Freiburg and Frankfurt – was that Inter offered him the chance to play his favored centre-half role again after years for days he led the line as a complete. -back for Bayern and France.

“Then there’s the tactics,” adds the former Stuttgart star. “In Munich, I played as a defender. I’m central here, my favorite role.”

Now, Pavard’s comments are in contrast to what Fabrizio Romano reported after the deadline, and after the Frenchman became an Inter player.

From Bundesliga champion to Serie A winner

“Pavard wanted to come to Manchester United. The deal was almost done from the player’s end and it was advanced from the club’s end,” Romano told The United Stand, explaining that Harry Maguire’s aborted move to West Ham also played a part in the deal not going through. it will happen

“Manchester United were prepared to pay what Inter paid for Pavard, something around 30 to 32 million euros. So, to put Harry Maguire’s money on Benjamin Pavard, he could change his defence. But the deal didn’t happen because of the Maguire situation.”

Now, either Romano is a bit ill-informed – which to be fair doesn’t happen also often – or Pavard is not being entirely honest about those Man United.

Sky Sports claimed in mid-August that Pavard was willing to “fight as hard as possible” to get to United.

be that as it may, The red devils they could certainly have done with a player of his experience and versatility in a season in which they conceded the most goals (81) since 1977.

Pavard now has 16 trophies in his senior career, including the World Cup, Champions League and five consecutive league titles in Germany and Italy. Former United trio Alexis Sanchez, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Matteo Darmian were also part of Simone Inzaghi’s 2024 squad. scudettowinner list.
