Man jailed for raping woman after avoiding prison for sexually assaulting child

An ‘extreme sexual deviant’ who avoided jail after sexually assaulting a child has been jailed after raping a woman.

Michael Wynter, 34, was found guilty of raping the woman while she was “asleep or unconscious” at a property in Pinner, north-west London, between 2019 and 2021.

He was arrested in connection with the attack in December 2021.

Met detectives collected evidence from his and the victim’s phones and spoke to a witness who the woman told throughout the ordeal.

Wynter, of Crayshaw Road in Lambeth, was found guilty of rape at the Old Bailey last Tuesday and was jailed for seven years.

It was revealed that Wynter had already been on the Sex Offenders’ Register, having been convicted in 2021 of sexually assaulting a child in an incident that took place between 2002 and 2003.

He received a six-month prison sentence for prison assault.

The sentence was suspended for 18 months, meaning he did not have to serve his prison sentence unless he reoffended or failed to comply with the requirements during that period.

The Metropolitan Police said that following his rape conviction, Wynter will now remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

Detective Constable Adam Conibeere, who led the investigation, said: “Wynter is an extreme sexual deviant who raped a woman while she was asleep or unconscious.

“I would like to commend the surviving victim who bravely handled the entire investigation and court process and I can only hope that this outcome will help give her some comfort and the closure she deserves in her ordeal to continue his life.

“She showed incredible strength and heroism when she came forward to report the matter after much consideration because she didn’t want anyone else to suffer because of Wynter.

“Tackling violence against women and girls is a key priority for the Met. We will continue to do everything we can to get predatory criminals off London’s streets, while supporting complainants and helping them every step of the way.”
