West Yorkshire Police have wished one of their colleagues well after he was injured in an incident that did not stop in Leeds.

Officers had been patrolling Selby Road in the east of the city and had attempted to pull over the driver of a car.

Several members of the force were brought in to assist in the operation, including those from the Proactive Interception Team.

However, as officers on foot approached the black Seat Ibiza, the car did not stop and eventually reversed over the officer.

The man, who was holding on to one of the car’s doors, was eventually dragged to the ground as the car began to speed away, before disappearing completely under the car.

Emergency services were called to the scene to treat the officer as a police cordon was put in place following the incident.

The officer was transported to the hospital to receive medical treatment for his injuries, which were not considered life-threatening.

Following this, West Yorkshire Police Federation provided an update on the officer’s condition, adding that they wished him a speedy recovery.

Craig Nicholls, president of the Federation, said he had spoken to the victim personally and received their unwavering support.

“Fortunately, he is in good spirits; however, this could have been a very different story,” added Nicholls.

“It’s a stark reminder of the unpredictability and inherent risks of our job. We walk into potentially dangerous situations every day, never quite knowing what to expect.”

Nicholls went on to say that “West Yorkshire Police officers remain dedicated to their mission – exemplifying resilience and courage in the face of adversity.”
