UK weather forecast: “Summer sunshine is not far away,” says the Met Office

The Met Office has forecast summer heat is “not far off” despite some persistent drizzle, with temperatures expected to top 20 degrees Celsius in some areas over the weekend.

Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern, in an online forecast, said: “It’s the last day of spring weather and in time the spring rains are easing and summer sunshine is not far away as high pressure moves in from the west.”

He explained that this high pressure will bring calmer weather for most, but not everyone, due to low pressure from the east bringing occluded fronts over the North Sea over the next few days.

Regarding the weekend’s weather, Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill said: “For large amounts over the weekend it will feel quite summery”, assuring “a decent amount of sunshine this weekend”.

The sunny outlook comes as high pressure moves in from the west and is expected to control weather conditions throughout the weekend.

Temperatures could reach between 22 and 23 degrees Celsius under clear skies on Sunday, although it could be slightly colder and cloudier in the north.
