Leeds United now reportedly want to sign ‘amazing’ player Mauricio Pochettino, who he considers a manager’s dream

Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing a player Mauricio Pochettino believes is the type every manager needs in their squad.

Although the transfer window doesn’t officially open until June 14, clubs will no doubt be doing a lot of work behind the scenes so they are well prepared.

Leeds are certainly a side who will be keen to launch themselves this summer as they know all too well what a slow start to an early season window can mean.

After being relegated last year, Leeds didn’t make their first signing until the third week of July and it ultimately proved costly as they won just one of their opening five games.

Although key players will have to be sold following Leeds’ failure to win promotion, Paraag Marathe has confirmed that funds will be available for reinvestment and they will look to do so quickly.

What Pochettino said about Leeds is aimed at Alfie Gilchrist

Leeds are clearly looking to be ambitious in how they rebuild the squad this summer, and Red Bull’s lucrative sponsorship deal will only help that.

However, free agency and loans are certainly markets he shouldn’t ignore, and in the form of the latter, Leeds will be looking to improve on that.

Of the four Premier League players they took out on loan last season, only Joe Rodon can be considered a real success, with none of Djed Spence, Jaidon Anthony and Connor Roberts making much of an impact.

And Leeds have already been linked with their first Premier League loanee of the summer, with Chelsea’s Alfie Gilchrist said to be someone they are interested in.

In what has been a breakthrough season, Gilchrist has made 15 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea this season, one of which came from the start against Leeds in the FA Cup.

He also managed to find the back of the net for the first time at senior level in April during a 6-0 win over Everton, a goal which prompted his former boss Mauricio Pochettino to label him the type of player that every team needs. their team.

Speaking to Chelsea.com, he said: “He’s an amazing guy in the way he works, he’s always available. He’s the kind of player you want in your team.”

Pochettino wasn’t the only person at Chelsea to praise Gilchrist for his work rate, with their star man Cole Palmer also doing so.

Palmer also spoke after Chelsea’s win over the Toffees, labeling the 20-year-old as someone who always works so hard every day. Sounds like a player the fans would love.

He said: “Everyone was buzzing for him. He’s obviously been at Chelsea all his life. He trained with us and gave 100% every day.”
