Britain’s ‘most elegant train’, the Northern Belle, is coming to Coventry

One of Britain’s most stylish trains will be in Coventry next weekend. The Northern Belle will depart from the city station on Saturday (June 8).

It will take passengers on a steam journey over the scenic Settle-Carlisle line. They will be greeted with a red carpet and a glass of champagne before boarding the gleaming 1930s Pullman-style Northern Belle, which was once part of the iconic Orient Express.

It will depart Coventry at 7.10am and passengers will then enjoy a three-course brunch, while more passengers are picked up from Birmingham International, Wolverhampton, Stafford and Crewe.

During the journey, the train’s resident band and a magician will wander through the carriages to entertain those on board. For the first part of the journey, the train will be pulled by a heritage diesel engine before a huge steam locomotive called the Tangmere, which used to pull express trains from London to the South Coast, takes over at Carnforth.

Then, after a short stop to explore Carlisle, a six-course dinner with wine will be served as you travel through the Yorkshire Dales to Settle. While next Saturday’s trip is sold out, the Northern Belle will return to Coventry on July 27 and October 19 for two more steam trips on the same route.

There will also be a trip to Weymouth and the Dorset Coast in August, followed by a Christmas lunch trip in December. For more details and to book, see the website here
