The lifeline was unveiled on behalf of tragic Babacar Diagne at the Coventry center he loved

A tragic teenager will be forever remembered at a place he came to love in Coventry. Not only that, the special tribute to Babacar Diagne could also save lives.

He was just 15 when he was found stabbed to death in the meadow off Petitor Crescent, Wood End, on the evening of February 5, 2020. Three teenagers who ‘left him for dead’ have been jailed for life for his senseless murder.

He was living in Coventry while being looked after by a foster family and members of the youth board of his FCA fostering agency wanted to do something in his memory. They raised enough money to buy a bleeding kit and a cabinet to help care for others who need emergency treatment.

As well as having the kit, which can be used to help stop life-threatening bleeding until paramedics arrive, the center is also set to become one of the city’s new safe spaces. These safe havens are where staff are trained to provide support to young people and where they can go if they need help.

Councilor Patricia Seaman, cabinet member for children and young people at Coventry City Council, said: “Babacar was a young man with his whole life ahead of him when he was tragically taken by knife crime.

“It is a wonderful idea of the fostering agency to honor his memory in this way. We all hope it will never be used, but it is there in case someone needs emergency care and could prevent another senseless loss of life.”
