Penzance Pride: Hundreds carry world’s ‘biggest’ pride flag around town

A gloriously sunny day was made even brighter in Penzance today (Saturday, June 1) as hundreds of people carried the world’s largest Pride flag through the town. The event is one of many hosted by Cornwall Pride across the Duchy this summer, celebrating love and diversity while working towards a hate-free Cornwall.

Gathering just before midday, the parade started down Market Jew Street in Penzance, led by a fire engine from Penzance Community Fire Station and followed by the impressive Pride flag which filled the street. Those who took part in the march then continued down Chapel Street, before continuing along Penzance Promenade, dancing all the way to the end, where the Cornwall Pride stage was set up for an afternoon of entertainment.

In total, there will be 11 Pride community events across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly this year, with festival atmospheres, music and educational workshops and wellbeing programmes.

This weekend’s event coincides with the launch of St Austell Breweries’ ‘Beer is Beer’ weekend Cask Club, produced in collaboration with Cornwall Pride. The special pride-themed beer is available in selected pubs this weekend to celebrate the start of Pride month.
