Three Manchester United left-backs could be signed this summer

Sports Mole looks at three left-backs Manchester United could sign during this summer’s transfer window.

Manchester United are expected to move for a new left-back during this summer’s transfer window amid concerns Luke Shawinjury problems.

Shaw has been limited to just 15 appearances for the Red Devils during the 2023-24 campaign due to fitness issues and the club are said to be concerned about his time in the treatment room.

Tyrell MalaciaMeanwhile, he didn’t appear at all last season due to a knee problem that required two separate surgeries.

Kerkez moved to Bournemouth from AZ Alkmaar last summer and has represented the Cherries on 33 occasions in all competitions, including 28 Premier League outings.

The 20-year-old featured twice against Man United in the English top flight last season and his performances are believed to have caught the attention of the Red Devils.

Kerkez is said to be wanted by a number of clubs and Bournemouth look set to find it difficult to keep him long-term due to his potential.

The left-back is inexperienced and it would be a risk to spend big on him this summer, but if a relatively small fee can be agreed with Bournemouth then he could prove to be a very astute signing for the club.

Davies’ future remains the subject of much speculation, with Bayern desperate to sign him to a new deal and real madrid pushing to bring him to the capital of Spain.

Los Blancos are heavy favorites for the Canada international and Man United’s absence from next season’s Champions League would make a deal difficult but not impossible.

Davies is the type of player the club should be targeting as they try to return to former glory and it is difficult to rely on Shaw due to his injury problems, so the Canadian would probably be the number one left-back at Old Trafford. if he arrived from Munich.

Chelsea and Manchester City are also credited with an interest in the 23-year-old, who has scored 11 goals and registered 31 assists in 195 appearances for Bayern since his arrival in January 2019.

A recent report claimed that Man United are considering a move for Cucurella this summer, amid suggestions that Chelsea would be open to a sale.

The 25-year-old was loaned out to Old Trafford last summer amid Man United’s injury woes at left-back, but ultimately stayed at Stamford Bridge.

The Spaniard made 26 appearances for the Blues during the 2023-24 campaign, scoring just once and providing two assists in the process.

Cucurella wasn’t the best for Chelsea, but he wasn’t always the best performer and he showed his class during his time at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Again, a lot will depend on the price as Man United have other priorities in the market, including a centre-back, a central midfielder and a striker, but a move for a player of Cucurella’s age and stature makes a lot of sense.
