The Darwin Nunez deal could spell trouble for the Rangers as the club has a massive transfer bug

Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez has reportedly put a wrench in the works for Damian Garcia’s potential move to Rangers, with the Scottish club reportedly tracking the Uruguayan midfielder.

Garcia, who shines at Nunez’s former club Penarol, has attracted the attention of several teams, including Rangers, after an outstanding season, as noted by South American journalist Nathan Joyes.

With just six months left on his contract, Garcia is locked in a bitter row with Penarol and his agent Edgardo ‘Chino’ Lasalvia has shockingly revealed the player is struggling to pay his rent, reports the Daily Record.

Lasalvia also highlighted the missed opportunity for Penarol, lamenting that part of Nunez’s £85m move to Liverpool could have put them in a stronger financial position and allowed a lucrative deal for Garcia. “If Penarol had a percentage of Valverde or Darwin Nunez today, as we asked them to please, Penarol would have a lot more money,” he said.

Nunez joined Penarol as a youngster in 2014 and broke into their first team in 2017, before leaving for Almeria two years later. While it is standard for clubs to include a sell-on clause when parting ways with top prospects, Lasalvia indicated that Penarol did not take his advice.

Now, with the prospect of Garcia leaving, Penarol is expected to take a different approach, which could affect Rangers or any other interested party with a future sell-on clause.
