King Charles ‘threatens to cut ties with Prince Andrew’

King Charles is considering cutting all ties with Prince Andrew, who has refused to move into Harry and Meghan’s former residence. The 75-year-old monarch is believed to be pressuring his scandal-ridden brother to vacate the 30-room Royal Lodge in Windsor after previously suggesting he move to Frogmore Cottage.

Prior to their move to the US, Prince Harry and Meghan lived at the cottage, retaining possession until they were served with an eviction notice last year. Now it’s apparently Andrew’s turn to leave the royal abode, with Charles reportedly warning her of dire repercussions if she stays.

The Duke of York, 64, is said to have a long lease on the Royal Lodge. However, as king, Charles is ultimately responsible for the finances of the royal household and could opt to withhold funds from Andrew, potentially leaving him unable to cover the Grade II listed property’s exorbitant annual maintenance costs .

King Charles is also currently footing the bill for Andrew’s £3million-a-year security costs.

Andrew’s stubbornness in not accepting the new residence after repeated requests exasperated Charles. A royal insider revealed to The Times: “The King’s kindness is not without limit and there is a very good option for Andrew to move into Frogmore Cottage, recently vacated by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, which also has the advantage of being within Windsor Castle’s Security Cordon, thus reducing the need for round-the-clock alternative security for the Royal Lodge,” the Mirror reports.

Additionally, the source noted that Andrew is “taking longer than he’d like” to “acknowledge the reality of the situation.”

However, Andrew seems steadfast in his stance. An individual familiar with the Duke of York suggested to the publication that he could “dig in” if the impasse persists, noting that he has already received a “stay of execution” due to Sarah Ferguson and the recent illnesses of the King himself.

The Royal Lodge, the former residence of the Queen Mother, is a Grade II listed 19th century building with a swimming pool and 90 acres of grounds. Andrew secured a 75-year lease on the property in 2003 and lives there with his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson.
