Manchester United target £60m move for Wolves star to fill striker void

Manchester United are targeting £60million Wolves star striker Matheus Cunha.

And they are also hot on the heels of West Ham’s African star Mohammed Kudus.

Old Trafford scouts have been keeping tabs on Brazilian forward Cunha last season – and he is believed to be at the top of their target list as United look to replace departed Frenchman Anthony Martial. Erik ten Hag has just two established strikers in Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford, and a new striker is one of many priority signings this summer.

And Cunha, 25, has emerged as a player United would like to sign despite only being at Wolves for one season.

Cunha played in his first full season in the Premier League following his £44m move from Atletico Madrid last summer, following a loan spell in which he helped keep Wolves in the top flight under former boss Julen Lopetegui .

The South American scored 14 goals – 12 in the League – and made eight assists in an impressive season, and his absence towards the end of the season was a big reason why Wolves slipped down the table.

And he perfectly fits the profile of the players Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to attract as he tries to make United – aggressive, dynamic and ambitious.

Wolves will resist any attempt to lose Cunha, who is believed to be in the region of £60,000-a-week at Molineux. But United are prepared to double the Brazilian’s wages in their bid to convince Cunha to join Ratcliffe’s revolution.

United are also keen on West Ham’s 23-year-old Ghanaian striker Kudus, who also scored 14 goals last season after joining from Ajax where he played under ten Hag.

But United could lose out to Liverpool, with Kudus also on the radar as they look to soften the blow of the potential loss of Mo Salah – who has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League ahead of next season.
