West Midlands Fire Service confirms the source of the fire in Erdington

West Midlands Fire Service has confirmed that a large fire in Erdington has involved building materials on a derelict industrial site. Firefighters were called to the fire in Cincinnati Drive shortly after 5.25pm ​​on Saturday (June 1).

Five fire engines, three brigade response vehicles and a hydraulic aerial platform responded from Erdington, Ward End, Sheldon, Sutton Coldfield, Perry Barr, Aston and Highgate stations, manned by around 35 firefighters.




It was confirmed that the fire was extinguished by 21.00. A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said no one was injured.

They said: “This was a fire involving building materials on a derelict industrial site. The 80m x 10m fire was contained to a steel frame structure.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used four jets to tackle the fire, which was confirmed to be out at around 8.25pm. Drone operations assisted them.

“An adjacent derelict single-story building sustained minor heat damage. No one was injured in this incident. A full search was conducted and confirmed that everyone was found.

“Crews confirmed that all hot spots were extinguished by approximately 9pm and the incident was reduced to a brief viewing.”
