Leeds United’s first confirmed exit of the summer has been confirmed with Luke Ayling penning a permanent deal at Middlesbrough after a successful loan spell.

The switch takes place at Elland Road in the coming weeks, with a retained list to be confirmed in the near future.

As we head into June, several of Leeds’ expiring contracts are already confirmed to be leaving the club permanently.

Luke Ayling confirms permanent deal with Middlesbrough after strong loan spell

Luke Ayling’s exit from Leeds was essentially confirmed in January when a tearful announcement of his move to Middlesbrough was made, joining Michael Carrick’s men for the second half of the season.

He has clearly made a solid impression with eight assists to his name as he has now earned a permanent deal at the Riverside for the 24/25 campaign.

Ayling has penned a two-year deal with the Teessiders to keep him there until 2026.

One of the iconic members of Marcelo Bielsa’s promotion-winning Leeds side, Ayling leaves Leeds with the best wishes of his fans and team-mates.

As he posted on Instagram, Kalvin Phillips was among those who reacted with delight for the right back:

All the best at Middlesbrough, Bill!

Ayling has been an icon of the club in recent years and to see him leave in January was a poignant one for the club.

However, he couldn’t have gone to a better place to maintain his standards in the Championship, getting game time under a very good manager.

Seeing him back at Elland Road next season will surely be a great moment for him and the fans, even if he is wearing red.
