The cheapest destinations in Birmingham Airport, including one with half-price beer

The cost of living crisis has forced many Brummies to tighten their purse strings and for some that will mean skipping a holiday abroad this year. Holidays can undoubtedly be expensive, but there are some destinations with flights from Birmingham Airport for less than £50 return.

Getting cheap flights is a surefire way to cut costs. If you can travel in the off-season, even better, as you will benefit from lower airfares and hotel rates. Otherwise, choosing a destination that’s off the tourist radar will probably save you a few quid.

Luckily, there are some beautiful and interesting cities that you can fly to directly from Birmingham Airport for a budget break. One of them is a beer drinker’s dream, with the average pint costing half that in the UK.

Warsaw

Sometimes called the “Paris of the East,” this underrated city truly rose from the ashes after being deliberately destroyed by Nazi German occupiers during World War II. The Polish capital has a lot to offer tourists – unique architecture, interesting museums, delicious food and a thriving nightlife.

Its charming old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and many of the quaint little cafes and restaurants turn into bars at night. Visitors can explore the shops along the 2 km long Royal Road, eat the best Polish dumplings at one of the city’s food halls, take a walking tour to learn about Warsaw’s haunting history, or spend an afternoon in the wonderful city park Lazienki.

Those traveling on a budget will be happy to hear that Warsaw is one of the cheapest holiday destinations in Europe. A pint here costs almost half the price in the UK – an average of £2.70 compared to £5 at home – and you’ll pay even less if you venture outside the centre.

It’s not just the booze that’s cheap. Unlike other European capitals, accommodation in Warsaw is also super cheap, with some private apartments costing as little as £20 a night, while public transport is also extremely affordable, with taxis usually charging only 60 per kilometer.

Return flights from Birmingham Airport to Warsaw cost just £48. Ryanair has flights departing October 6th and returning October 13th for less than £50.

Barcelona

One of the most fashionable cities in Europe, Barcelona is a city break and a beach holiday in one. The Spanish hotspot is home to impressive museums, perfect parks, pristine beaches and excellent restaurants.

The Sagrada Família is a sight not to be missed and is one of the most visited basilicas in the world for good reason. The beautiful Parc Guell offers stunning hilltop views of the city, while Barcelona’s most famous street, La Rambla, is full of shops, flower stands and terraces.
