A YouTuber names five ‘worst places’ to book flights to Coventry as the city is ‘crazy’

A new video shows piles of rubbish dumped in areas of Coventry as the city’s rubbish problem is branded ‘crazy’. Crumpled furniture, overflowing bins and boxes piled up on the pavement were all found by a visiting vlogger.

The video was uploaded three weeks ago by the UK Explored channel. The channel says its aim is “to bring you an unbiased, unfiltered and honest view of the UK”.

The Coventry video shows what the vlogger has ‘seen and experienced’ in five places he claimed are among the ‘worst areas’ to live in the city. Areas rank very well in crime or deprivation statistics – or both – compared to the rest of the city, according to the film.

The flying-topped furniture could be seen in clips from all the areas visited, which include Bell Green, Hillfields, Henley Green, Willenhall and Foleshill. These ranged from discarded sofas and fridge freezers to mattresses and chairs.

“The litter problem in Coventry in general has been crazy,” added the vlogger. Some places were singled out for the amount of litter, including Bell Green, where they said “there’s litter everywhere”.

Pictures show cans piled up on the pavement and black bags scattered among the bushes. They also found “a lot of discarded drink and drug paraphernalia” in the area and claimed much of it had “clearly been on the floor for a month”.

“I could have easily done an hour-long montage with all the fly flips and trash I had to go through,” they added. In Hillfields, a pile of rubbish could be seen next to cars in a car park and the amount of litter in Foleshill was called “ridiculous”.

In Willenhall, the vlogger claimed fly tippers were casting “like crazy”. “The forest is more like a peak than some kind of idyllic escape,” they added.

The video also referred to reports of crime occurring in the areas. Overall, the film garnered attention and has been viewed on YouTube over 20,000 times with 280 comments.

Flytipping is a ‘personal responsibility’ issue

The Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) asked the council if it had any comments on the video, including the fly tipping and rubbish it showed. A council spokesman said: “Coventry is a great city and a great place to visit.

“Our city is full of hard-working people and we work with a range of partners, including landlords, to support improvements as well as seek private sector investment. In terms of tipping, our officers carry out regular city checks and immediately deal with fly tipped materials on our land.

“We also routinely serve notices to tenants, landlords and landowners to clear their land and make repairs to their properties. In the last year alone we have served over 800 notices to force waste to be removed from private land.

“Of course there is always more to do. But there is much to celebrate in our city as well.

“This issue is also about personal responsibility and we encourage anyone who notices fly-tipping to report it anonymously by going to https://www.coventry.gov.uk/flytipping or by calling 08085 834333 .”
